How to Set the Perfect Stylish Passover Table

How to Set the Perfect Stylish Passover Table

Are you ready to make your Passover table stand out from the rest? With the right decorations, this traditional night can be filled with family, friends, and meaningful conversations. From modern centerpieces to authentic Seder elements, this article will provide useful tips and recommendations sure to make your Passover memorable.

Let's get started and explore how to make the perfect Passover table setting.

Preparing the Table

No gathering is complete without a well-appointed table setting. To elevate your Seder table, consider some important details: the number of dinner guests, the food being served, and the traditional Passover elements, like the Seder plate, matzah, and Elijah’s cup. With these basics in mind, you’re ready to set the perfect Seder table.

The Seder Plate

The Seder plate is a platter with 6 spots for symbolic foods to remind us of the Exodus from Egypt. From luxurious heirlooms to simple plastic versions, the Seder plate serves its purpose of preserving our history, drawing us closer together as we celebrate the holiday.

For a modern twist on the traditional Seder plate, use 6 saucers or small bowls and display on the table with a big plate, or serving tray. The bowls could be designed for Passover like this one pictured above, or they could even be plain.

The Haggadah

It's a story of freedom - and a mitzvah, or commandment - for Jews to pass on the story of the Exodus of their ancestors from bondage in Egypt. This is done with the Haggadah - a book which tells the story. It’s placed at each place setting at the Passover Seder, which ensures everyone present is involved and informed

Incorporate the Haggadah in the place setting by wrapping it in paper, cloth, or a napkin. You can also use it as a name card by adding names to the front of the wrapped Haggadah.

The Matzah

At the Seder table, it's customary to include three pieces of matzah on a plate covered with a cloth or napkin. The Haggadah directs when to eat the matzah, and some of it will also be hidden, called the Afikomen. Children will often go on a hunt to find the Afikomen and the one who finds it typically gets a reward like a small gift or money.

Add a cute touch to each place setting by breaking apart long pieces of matzah and wrapping it in the napkin or tying a string around it.

Elijah’s cup

It is customary to add an extra wine glass on the table for the Prophet, Elijah. The Haggadah will direct when it is time to fill the extra glass with wine.

You can purchase cups specifically made for this purpose on Passover, or you can use what you have.

Wine Glasses

Wine isn't just part of a Seder service, it's essential! The Haggadah directs all guests to sip a total of four glasses of wine (or juice) during the evening, so make sure that everyone's got a glass to fill.

Creating the Centerpiece

Create a beautiful and inspired table setting this Passover by getting creative. Flowers & vases are a popular choice, while you could add a fun touch of color by adding colorful glass candle holders. Add beeswax candles to the table for a warming accent to ensure your guests will have an inviting and unforgettable dining experience.

Stargaze Candles has all the things you'll need to create this bright & colorful glass candle centerpiece.

The Holiday Candles

Lighting the two candles on the Seder table is a symbolic act, marking the official start of a sacred time.

For a natural, eco-friendly, and non-toxic way to honor the holiday, beeswax candles are a great choice.

Not only are these candles a healthier alternative to paraffin wax candles, they also add a special modern touch to the Seder.

In addition to the holiday candles, you'll also need some 24 hour, or yahrzeit candles for Yom Tov candle lighting. Check here for all the candles you'll need to prepare for Pesach 2024.
